About DuFresneWoodworks

How It All Began

I was raised by a loving mother, and a father who could make or fix almost anything with his own two hands. From building the very house we grew up in and the kitchen cabinets that filled it, to repairing bicycles and tackling whatever challenge came his way, he seemed capable of it all. My parents worked tirelessly to provide for our family and raise us on strong biblical foundations. Watching their dedication through both good times and difficult seasons instilled in me the diligence, perseverance, and work ethic that continue to shape my work today.

One of my earliest memories is building a small birdhouse with my dad during a Home Depot father-son workshop. While he did most of the work and I mostly contributed distractions and the occasional mishap, it sparked something in me. After all, that's how a young boy learns.

In high school, I joined the woodworking program and competed in SkillsUSA, earning second place in the state cabinetry competition during my senior year. The woodshop became a place where I could develop practical skills, express creativity, and learn under the guidance of a true craftsman and artist.

As an adult, the love of building and creating that my father passed down to me continued to grow. What began as simple projects around our home evolved into more advanced joinery, refined finishing techniques, and eventually commissions for others. That's when the dream became a reality.

There is something deeply rewarding about creating heirloom-quality pieces that become part of a family's story. Knowing that someone trusted me to build the display case for their great-great-great-grandfather's 230-year-old cane is both humbling and inspiring.

Getting to work with one of God's most beautiful creations—wood—is a blessing I never take for granted.

The Process

In a world where nearly anything can be made by a CNC machine or 3D printer, I choose a combination of traditional woodworking methods, modern machinery, and hand tools. This balance allows me to work efficiently while maintaining the craftsmanship and personal touch that make each piece unique.

Every project begins as an idea. That idea becomes a stack of rough lumber, which is carefully milled, shaped, joined, and refined into something new. Along the way, the wood reveals its character through grain patterns, knots, and subtle imperfections.

No piece is truly perfect—and that's part of its beauty. The marks and variations found in natural wood are reminders of its history and the journey it took before becoming part of your home. Rather than hiding every imperfection, I strive to honor the material and let its character shine.

Who I Am

I'm a small-town guy who loves building with wood. I'm a husband, brother, son, and friend. Above all, I am a follower of Jesus Christ and grateful for the gifts and opportunities God has given me.

Why Choose DuFresne Woodworks?

There are countless furniture makers and woodworkers to choose from. So why choose DuFresne Woodworks?

Because every piece that leaves my shop is built with intention, care, and attention to detail. I am not a large production facility turning out hundreds of identical products. Each commission receives personal attention from the initial design conversation through the final finish and delivery.

I believe in honesty, transparency, and craftsmanship that lasts. As a small shop, I don't carry the overhead of large manufacturers or luxury showrooms, which allows me to focus on delivering exceptional quality at a fair price.

When you purchase from DuFresne Woodworks, you're not simply buying furniture. You're investing in a handcrafted piece designed to serve your family, tell a story, and endure for generations.
